About Us Baginton Nurseries - A Growing SuccessBaginton Nurseries was established in 1981 as a husband and wife partnership and developed as a wholesale bedding, plant nursery on a 6-acre site, Supplying mainly boxed bedding, cut flowers , pot plants, Hanging Baskets and Planted Containers to local shops, markets and garden centres. The increasing demand for high quality bedding plants, hanging baskets and planted containers led to further expansion of the glasshouse area and development of a substantial area of polytunnels during the 80's and 90's. Today the site has 3 acres of protected structures and an acre of irrigated standing out area for high quality production of more Hardy plants. Further expansion of the garden centre market led to the nursery setting up a nationwide delivery service supplying several established garden centres as well as independent businesses, golf clubs and hotels. The growing interest in the 'Britain in Bloom' competition and increasing tendency for bedding plants, hanging baskets and planted containers to be bought in by Local Authorities, led to tendering for this type of work by the nursery. Many successful contracts have been set up supplying Local Authorities and Landscape Contractors with High Quality Bedding Plants, Hanging Baskets and Planted Containers and today 45 per cent of the nursery's production is contract grown. The British Ornamental Plant Producers set up an Accreditation scheme in 1996 to establish a quality standard for wholesale bedding plant, hanging basket and Planted container production, and Baginton Nurseries were among the first producers in the U.K. to gain Accreditation in February 1997. The nursery has been inspected regularly by the independent inspectorate since then, and has gained an Accreditation Certificate each year up to the present time. In January 2003 Baginton Nurseries became a Limited Company and have since made substantial investment in green houses and mechanization to enable the business to remain competitive and to be in a position to expand. The nature of the business makes it labour intensive and seasonal and depends largely on the skill and loyalty of its staff. The retention and development of this vital resource through staff training is recognised as the key to the success of Baginton Nurseries. The Management at Baginton Nurseries have worked with the Investors in People National Standard to achieve the award in November 2000 and have been successfully reassessed in March 2006, continuing to meet the National Standard for effective investment in people. The Nurseries are now known in the horticultural industry as Baginton`s and have a mission to promote the sales of Quality Bedding Plants,Hanging Baskets and Planted Containers to local and Nationwide customers. Baginton`s have a commitment to service and quality and the policy to care for the environment is demonstrated daily by our skilled and well trained staff who all enjoy growing plants in the Heart of England. |
